Siem Reap-Angkor,a former Hindusim Capital which Angkor Monarchy erecked a symbol for ceremony at the highest part of Kulen Mount and The mythical status of Kulen began with King Jayavamarn II. Hindusim had already arrived with traveling merchants and priests, and Jayavarman II saw Kulen, or as it was then Mahendraparvata, as symbolising the cosmological center of the Hindu Universe . In his eyes, Kulen dominated the Tonle Sap floodplain in the same way that Mount Meru rose above the mythical oceans. It was thereforeon the Summit of Kulen - where the earth met the heavens and men met the gods- that he was ordained here in 802s. until the abandonment of Angkor city in 1432. King Ponhea Yat left Angkor, taking his court with him. It may be that repeated wars had so depleted manpower at Angkor that the irrigation system collapsed , leaving no option but to move . Ponhea Yat set up capital in Phnom Penh.
In 1795, Siem Reap territory annexed to Siam ( Former Thailand) and was returned to its mother country during the reign of the Khmer King Preah Bat Sisowath In 1907 . It was an historic year for Siem Reap and Battambang Provinces freed after a century of Siam control. Also known from local translation Siam or Siem and Reap meant that defeated so Siem Reap means the Siam or Siem has been defeated .
