Siem Reap

Siem Reap-Angkor,a former Hindusim Capital which Angkor Monarchy erecked a symbol for ceremony at the highest part of Kulen Mount and The mythical status of Kulen began with King Jayavamarn II. Hindusim had already arrived with traveling merchants and priests, and Jayavarman II saw Kulen, or as it was then Mahendraparvata, as symbolising the cosmological center of the Hindu Universe . In his eyes, Kulen dominated the Tonle Sap floodplain in the same way that Mount Meru rose above the mythical oceans. It was thereforeon the Summit of Kulen - where the earth met the heavens  and men met the gods- that he was ordained here in 802s. until the abandonment of Angkor city in 1432. King Ponhea Yat left Angkor, taking his court with him. It may be that repeated wars had so depleted manpower at Angkor that the irrigation system collapsed , leaving no option but to move . Ponhea Yat set up capital in Phnom Penh.

    In 1795, Siem Reap territory annexed to Siam ( Former Thailand) and was returned to its mother country during the reign of the Khmer King Preah Bat Sisowath In 1907 . It was an historic year for Siem Reap and Battambang Provinces freed after a century of Siam control. Also known from local translation Siam or Siem and Reap meant that defeated so Siem Reap means the Siam or Siem has been defeated .

Siem Reap, about 314 km on northwest of Phnom Penh city, the gateway to the world-famous Angkor temple complex, which includes the magnificent Angkor Wat. It also contains a vibrant capital city boasting many luxury hotels, beautifully-aged colonial buildings, and beside the plenty temples , This capital is between the sacred kulen mount spread on the north east  and great fresh water lake ( Tonle Sap ) extend the huge paddy rice field on the bank of lake and a buzzing Pub Street, silk farms, night markets, and much more attractives spot for tourist explorings.

The city of Siem Reap, is a ‘must-visit’ destination for all visitors to cambodia. This is where the glorious 12th Century Angkor Wat temple, the largest religious building in the world. The Tonle Sap was formed as an isolated lake about 15,00 years ago. Around 500 years before the present , climate warming and higher sea level brought an important change . The lake was connected with mekong Rivervia a newly formed river , called Tonle Sap River. Since then , the lake has featured a unique hydrological system.

Each year in june, the monsoon waters from the Mekong reverse the Tonle Sap River flow and pour excess water into great lake . a boat trip across the Tonle Sap from Chhoung Kneas , Kompong Phluk, and Kompong Khleang a huge fishery community and mangrove forests. In october 1997 UNESCO accepted the nomination of the Tonle Sap into global network of Biogspere Reserves.

The ruins of Angkor acgaeological park covered with thick jungle, 401 km, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are over several hundred temples ranging in scale from nondescript piles of rubble scattered through rice fields to the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat--the best-preserved temple.

Apart from the legacy of the vast Angkor temple complex, Siem Reap has a lot more to offer to tourists, from the spectacular floating village on the Tonle Sap Lake to the heritage site of the Kulen Mountain, to the recently discovered Koh Ker ruins. The temple of Angkor Wat was built at the hight of Cambodia politcal power,during the reign of King Suryavarman II( 1113 - 1150 AD ). like the king before him. Suryavarman decided to build his own royal sanctuary at a place distinct from those predecessor 

In town, there are a bevy of ethnic craft shops, galleries, cafes, eateries and top-notch restaurants serving every type of cuisine. The famous ‘Pub Street’ and the night markets of Siem Reap are now renowned tour destinations in their own rights. Additionally, siilk farms, rice-paddy countryside, fishing villages and a very rich bird sanctuary near the Tonle Sap Lake makeSiem Reap one of the most captivating places in the world.
